Social publishing
Instagram & Facebook
Meta app configuration, Business account requirements and permissions.
Accounts that Meta can connect
Facebook Pages you can manage. Systemly does not publish to personal Facebook profiles.
Professional Business or Creator accounts linked to a Facebook Page. Personal accounts are not supported.
One Meta authorisation can discover several eligible Pages or Instagram accounts. Systemly stores each one as a separate destination in the current workspace.
Connect Facebook or Instagram
- Confirm the Instagram professional account is linked to the correct Facebook Page.
- Make sure your Facebook user can manage the Page and its connected Instagram account.
- Open Social → Accounts and connect Facebook or Instagram.
- Select all relevant businesses and Pages in Meta's permission screens.
- Back in Systemly, verify every expected destination is present.
No postable Instagram account was found
Completing Meta login does not by itself mean an account was connected. Meta must return an eligible Page and its linked professional Instagram account. Systemly reads subsequent batches of Pages too, so accounts after the first batch can be found.
- “Meta did not grant required permissions”: reconnect and approve the listed permissions. Meta remembers declined permissions, so Systemly explicitly asks for them again during connection. Page-list and publishing access are needed to connect; declining optional messaging or comment access does not prevent publishing connections, but those features still require their permissions.
- “Meta did not share any Facebook Pages”: check the Facebook profile you signed in with can manage the Page, then select that Page during consent. Personal Facebook profiles are not publishing destinations.
- “Meta shared Facebook Pages but did not return a linked Business or Creator Instagram account”: check the professional Instagram account is linked to the selected Facebook Page and approve Instagram access during consent.
- “Meta did not return a Page access token”: check Page access and approve the publishing permissions, then reconnect. Systemly will not mark an account connected without its Page token.
Connection failures stay visible on Social → Accounts until dismissed, with a link to the connection guide. If setup looks correct but an account still does not appear, contact support with this message and the Page/account names; do not send access tokens or OAuth codes.
Permissions Systemly requests
The Meta connection requests Page listing, publishing, engagement, messaging, and business management access. Instagram adds basic profile, content publishing, insights, and message access. Meta may require App Review and Live mode before people outside the app's test roles can connect.
Comment replies also need pages_manage_engagement for Facebook, instagram_manage_comments for Instagram, and pages_messaging on both. Rules for an account do not fire until it has all of them, so an account connected before they were requested must be reconnected.
Invalid Scopes: pages_read_user_content
Meta requires permission dependencies as well as the named feature permissions. Both instagram_basic and pages_manage_engagement depend on pages_read_user_content. pages_messaging depends on pages_manage_metadata. The connection explicitly requests both dependencies.
If the Facebook login screen reports Invalid Scopes, the platform operator must check that these permissions are enabled for the Meta app's use case and have the access level needed for the connecting account. Meta can name a dependency even when it was not written in the original login URL. After the operator updates the app configuration, start a fresh connection from Social → Accounts. Existing connected accounts must reconnect to grant newly added permissions. App Review may still be required for customers outside the app's test roles.
Publishing differences
- Instagram requires media and accepts up to 10 items.
- Facebook accepts text-only posts and up to 10 media items.
- Instagram media can continue processing at Meta after the upload is accepted.
- Deleting a Facebook post from Systemly also requests provider deletion.
- Instagram provider deletion is not available; remove the post in Instagram.
Meta analytics
Refreshing a published post can retrieve supported reach, impressions, reactions or likes, comments, saves, and shares. The exact set depends on the destination and what Meta returns for that post. See Post analytics for how snapshots work.
Meta developer reference
Deployment administrators should use Meta's official Instagram content publishing documentation when preparing the Meta application for review.
