Bringing your own key

Using your provider account without drawing on your monthly allowance.

Use your provider account

Bring an API key from OpenAI, Anthropic, OpenRouter, Google Gemini, Mistral, or Groq. Calls made with your saved key are billed by that provider, not deducted from Systemly's included allowance or paid extra usage. Systemly still records call and token counts so you can see usage by workspace.

Connect a workspace key

  1. Create an API key in your provider account with access to the model you intend to use.
  2. Open the client workspace, then Settings → AI assistant.
  3. Choose the provider, select Connect, and paste the key.
  4. Optionally enter a model ID; otherwise the provider default is used.
  5. Save key, set Preferred provider if more than one is connected, and save the settings.
  6. Select Test the connection to make one small request with the active configuration.

Keys are encrypted at rest and are not returned to the browser. You can replace or disconnect a key saved in the current workspace. Provider credentials may also be managed from the AI section of Integrations.

Share a key across client workspaces

An organisation owner or admin can configure an agency-wide AI integration. Client workspaces inherit it unless they save their own key for that provider. A workspace key takes priority over the inherited key; the Preferred provider setting decides which connected vendor the assistant uses when several are available.

The status under Settings → AI assistant identifies whether the active credential is this workspace's key, the agency's key, an included Systemly connection, or an instance-level key.

Choose a compatible model

The model picker in AI Studio lists suggestions for the connected provider. OpenRouter's catalogue is fetched on demand. You may enter a provider-specific model ID in settings even when it is not in the suggestion list, provided your key can reach it. Test the connection after changing providers or models.

For the included Systemly choices and their usage levels, see Models.

If a connection fails

Test fails

Check that the key is valid, has access to the selected model, and has an active provider billing account. The test calls the active preferred configuration.

Wrong provider

Set Preferred provider under Settings → AI assistant. A workspace may have several connected vendors, including an inherited or included one.

Key still appears active

Disconnecting a workspace key may reveal an inherited agency or instance key for the same vendor. Check the source label in Settings → AI assistant.
